I saw the whole series, and I haven't read the manga, but what happens to Knives?

I think he was alive at the end, just really beaten up. And then from there, you have to use your imagination.

But it's been a good 5 years since I last watched this show, so...

Knives got better. Maybe. I'm sure the manga had a much more complicated resolution.
