They're both.

The youth are taught by magical heroes, and in some cases, villians, to be the best darn magical people they can be.

The paladins in particular are like the muscle of the alliance imbued with the power of light they say comes from this god/goddess or that. In short, they're shiny and can hurt people.

Edit: Quidditch ** Yo Jo e! ** , I'd never use that. They have something called 'the gauntlet' which is a big obsticle course every student has to go through to pass. Depending on your talents/skills you start from a diffrent place.
