So what do you think of African Swim?

I think it's all right for hip-hop, personally. Never heard of any of these artists so each listen was a surprise (both good and bad). However, hip-hop isn't really my thing so I don't think I can be a fair judge of this album. I will applaud AS for trying something new with their newest compliation album, however.

They've done indie, electronica, and now hip-hop. I'm pretty sure rock/alternative will be the next genre represented unless they want to loop back.

My avatar represents Original Edward's reaction to the fact that Brotherhood Edward is about to replace him for all eternity in the hearts and minds of humanity.

Here's a link to the page.

Honestly, I think it should be Zulu Swim... maybe that's just me.

Also, just from an engineer's standpoint, the songs sound overly-hot, like, someone used a limiter a little too much on these tracks, not that some sounds aren't quiet enough.. but the loud sounds sound a little harsh imo.

Honestly, what are you talking about? African Swim is at least the 6th hip-hop effort [adult swim] has put forth in the last 3 years.

1) DangerDoom

2) Chocolate Swim

3) Chrome Children 1 & 2 (I'll lump these together because Chrome Children 2 is considered a remix album)

4) Definitive Swim

5) Diary of an American Witchdoctor

and finally,

6) African Swim

Looping back means nothing to [as]. They release whatever they want, whenever they want.

I only heard two tracks I liked online, so I'm probably going to give this a pass.

Chrome Children was phenomenal.

Eyyy.... Don't hate now...

I love the music scene AS has been following.

Hip hop really get's into the locals in atlanta.

Plus.. I mean.. I may not be a huge hip hop and rap fan.

But I have most of the cd's courtesy schoolboy records in Athens, Georgia.

Come all, see all.

I've downloaded it twice, but it doesn't work.  I can't find where it downloaded.  Frustrating.

Hip-hop/rap is all [as] ever promotes. They're tools of the lamest caliber. I haven't listened to it, but from what I heard and saw on the tv commercial, I can safely pass it up knowing it is a steaming pile of diarrhea.

hey everyone, a black guy is gonna be president, I bet we can get a lot of dumb, young males to buy this crappy african rap cd if we start plugging it now! the timing is perfect!

Prejudging at its finest.

You were paying such close attention you missed the fact that it's free.

You're right, I wasn't really paying attention and didn't notice that. However, I did hear enough in the commercial to know that it's no-talent, hack crap, like most rap. Reality can be hard and cold...and the reality is that 99% of rap is just some moron spouting stupidity with some rehashed, tired, electronically made "beats"...and maybe another moron repeating the first or throwing in a "yea dawg" or whatever is cool these days. I could fart better music.

You are fully entitled to your opinion. If you whittle out the angry bits of your post I might even agree with you. It was, however, completely unfair of you to come in here bashing the album without listening to it AT ALL and ranting that Adult Swim was trying to profit off of some political situation; an assumption with no basis in reality.
Having said that, the fact is only four of the sixteen tracks have a genuine African flavor to them, and three of them suffer from the standard formula of taking 2-4 measures of the same music and playing them over and over and over. I personally have no interest in listening to that. Frankly, most music is formulaic even if it's just of a more complicated form. It becomes more a matter of finding that which resonates with one's own soul.

Now, if you wish to continue bashing what is generally accepted as a legitimate art form I suggest you take it to Rants where it belongs.

African Swim is dope. Plain and simple... Though dope as it is it can't compare to DEFSWIM! Either way I think these albums are one of the most admirable things Adult Swim has done. How they slipped these past Ted Turner is beyond me. You'd think he'd go all millionaire godzilla on a project called 'African Swim'. Anyway, good job. Probably 3-4th in the list of hotness AS has recently released.

You take little, meaningless things way too serious don't ya? Living your life that way will really bog ya' down and eat at your soul in the long run. Like being concerned with whether I'm in the right folder for displaying a certain emotion...or if I gave this crappy album a "fair chance", as if it deserved one. Anyway, you might wanna take up smoking pot...I never suggest that to anyone because it's usually a bad idea, but in your case, it just might save you from having a heart attack before you hit 30. I'm assuming you're in your early 20's. And yes, I know assuming makes an azz of blah blah blah.

You can get it for free right here, you can listen to it first if you wish. If you think there's any chance you'll want it in the future you should download it now because the freebies tend to disappear after a while.

I didn't like it. I didn't really expect it to sound so mainstream hip-hop. There were other things I didn't like, but there were a few cool tracks. [AS] should do a Caribbean swim and give us some funky reggae, soca, calypso and rumba, I still think Ghostly Swim is the best compilation they've given us. Choc Swim and Warm and Scratchy are pretty nice, but track for track Ghostly Swim is the Funfetti.
